GR2 Titanium Tubes for Heat Exchangers

GR2 is industrial-grade pure titanium, the most commonly used titanium tube grade in the heat exchanger industry, conforming to the standard ASTM B338 (ASME SB338).

Titanium GR2 Tubes Advantages

1. Superior resistance to chloride ion corrosion: No pitting/crevice corrosion occurs in seawater, brine, wet chlorine, and chlorine-containing media, far superior to stainless steel and copper-nickel tubes; usable up to 120℃ in seawater conditions.

2. Less prone to scaling: A stable oxide film forms on the surface, ensuring long-term stable heat exchange, requiring less maintenance and extending service life.

3. Good plasticity: Can be made into U-shaped bends, easy to expand and weld, ideal for shell-and-tube heat exchangers and condensers.

4. Density 4.51g/cm³, lighter than steel; moderate thermal conductivity allows for thin-walled designs to improve heat exchange efficiency.

5. Non-magnetic and non-polluting: Preferred choice for chemical processing, seawater desalination, and power plant seawater cooling.

Main Applications

• Shell-and-tube heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators (seawater cooling, brine heat exchange)

• Seawater desalination, power plant seawater cooling systems

• Piping for corrosive media in chemical, chlor-alkali, and salt industries

• Offshore platforms, ship cooling equipment.

ASTM B338 Inspection Items

1. Chemical composition, room temperature tensile strength

2. Flattening test; additional reverse flattening test for welded pipes

3. Non-destructive testing: eddy current ET, or hydrostatic test; UT ultrasonic testing as required

4. Dimensional, appearance, and surface quality inspection
